Based in Orofino, Idaho, many think the Maniacs got their name from the state mental hospital near the school. While hilarious, it’s not true. Rather the Maniacs name originated from the Orofino basketball team’s frantic style of play many decades ago. The stellar moniker stuck, and the mental hospital was later built, making it even better.
