In mining, a "mucker" is one that shovels away broken waste rock into mining cars and buckets. Due to the nature of the work, muckers were often the strongest, toughest, hardest workers guys around -- definitely not dudes you wanted to mess with. Over the years, the term "mucker" has also become synonomous in sports, particularly hockey, with a tough, hard-nosed player willing to "do the dirty work" and wreak havoc with his body and stick work. The old mining town of Tonopah, Nevada embraced the term and its history with its Fighting Muckers mascot -- great name, cool backstory, and classic vintage logo makes this a Mascot Madhouse fan favorite. "Muck it up, Fighting Muckers!"
