In mining, the "muckers" were the guys that shoveled the broken rock pieces into mining cars and buckets. Due to the nature of the work, the muckers were often the strongest, toughest, hardest workers around -- definitely not guys you wanted to mess with. Over the years, the term "mucker" has also become synonomous in sports jargon, particularly hockey, for those tough, hard-nosed players willing to "do the dirty work." The old mining town of Tonopah, Nevada embraced the term and its history with its Fighting Muckers mascot -- great name, cool backstory, and classic vintage logo makes this a Mascot Madhouse fan favorite. "Muck it up, Fighting Muckers!"
